What is a Composite Skill Lab? What is a Composite Skill Lab?

A Composite Skill Lab is a multi-disciplinary learning space designed to offer hands-on training across multiple skill subjects in schools without the need for setting up separate, expensive single-subject laboratories. Aligned with CBSE directives and NEP 2020 guidelines, it allows schools to introduce Grades 6 to 12 students to practical vocational streams like Agriculture, Technology, Design, and Management in one unified, collaborative environment.

Frequently Asked Questions Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers to help you plan, implement, and maximize your school's Composite Skill Lab.

How is a Composite Skill Lab different from a regular science lab?
A regular science lab primarily supports experiments related to scientific concepts. A Composite Skill Lab brings together a broader range of practical and vocational activities, helping students explore how knowledge is used across different tasks and fields of work.
What should schools consider before setting up a Composite Skill Lab?
Schools should identify the grades they want to serve, learning objectives, available space, and student batch sizes. Equipment, safety arrangements, teacher preparation, maintenance, and a regular activity schedule should be planned together to make the lab useful throughout the academic year.
Why is teacher training important for a Composite Skill Lab?
Teacher training helps educators guide activities, explain the concepts behind each task, and encourage students to find their own solutions. It also supports safe equipment handling and helps teachers integrate practical learning into regular lessons.
How can schools measure learning outcomes from a Composite Skill Lab?
Schools can track students’ ability to complete tasks, explain their observations, use tools appropriately, and improve their projects. Activity records, project portfolios, presentations, and teacher feedback can show progress in both practical skills and conceptual understanding.
How can NGOs and CSR partners support Composite Skill Labs in schools?
NGOs and CSR partners can help schools access equipment, learning resources, teacher training, and ongoing program support. Planning for maintenance and regular student participation helps the investment support meaningful learning beyond the initial lab setup.
How can a school get started with ScienceUtsav’s Composite Skill Lab solutions?
